The Stories of COVID interviews are an anthropological study of the pandemic — a rare moment when the entire globe moved through a paradigm shift at once. Across 214 interviews in 42 countries, Veronica Zora Kirin documented not just what happened, but how humans cope when the ground beneath them moves.
This work goes beyond history. It asks: What do people do when the rules of life suddenly change? Where do they find agency? How do communities adapt, resist, or reimagine the future?
By capturing the voices of ordinary people living through extraordinary times, Stories of COVID reveals the patterns of resilience that emerge during upheaval. These insights can help us all — policymakers, entrepreneurs, activists, and everyday citizens — recognize the shape of paradigm shifts as they unfold, and act with greater clarity and courage instead of fear.
Humanity will face more paradigm shifts: in climate, technology, politics, and culture. By studying the pandemic as a living case study, this project equips us with the tools to navigate disruption and reclaim agency in uncertain times.
